Project start up
Delays in funding often mean that projects are playing catch up to meet targets whilst still trying to recruit key staff. Empower are experienced in setting up new projects from the outset to create the monitoring processes, forming steering groups, creating policies and procedures and begin achieving outcomes, whilst staff can be recruited. We can pull the project back responding to slippage in order to hand over a successful project to incoming staff.
Empower provide advice and guidance in preparation of strategic business plans. Our team will work with you to establish the purpose of your plan, the content and the necessary strategies flowing from it. Where Empower differs from other business planning consultancies is that we will train you in the development of each element. The business plan document will be the result of a robust evaluation of your organisation, where it is now, and where it is going.
Rarely do Project Managers receive training before they take on the role, so it's good that much of it is common sense! However, projects can fail quite spectacularly if the Project Manager takes their eye off the ball, which could result in clawback of funding, loss of jobs and difficulty in the organisation securing future funding. Empower can provide highly experienced project managers on a short, medium or long term basis to help you respond to a range of issues.
We have substantial experience in engaging even the most marginalised members of our community and our experienced team work hard to ensure that everyone is heard. We can go door to door, facilitate focus groups and use the telephone to collect information. We have a range of testimonies to our success in this area.
With an increasing onus on voluntary organisations to generate income and reduce dependence on grant funding, a more commercial mindset is needed. Empower's experience of working with the third sector and our strategic skills and marketing insight ensure you reach your customers with the right message at the right time in the right place.
Empower's marketing manager has extensive website design experience - we are now able to provide fresh, creative digital services to third sector organisations who wish to grow their online presence. Empower will be able to help you develop new website projects, renovate your existing website or drive traffic to your site using social media campaigns.
Introducing our new service - The Empower Turn Around Team
Bringing together our substantial expertise in trouble-shooting and interim management, Empower are proud to launch their turn around team phase 1 and phase 2.
Turn Around Team phase 1
A team of specialist consultants will review every element of your operations, including HR, Health and Safety, reporting procedures, compliance with current legislation including the Equalities Act, Charity and company law, staff and team performance and finance. At the end of this investigative phase conducted over one month, we will provide a comprehensive report with our findings and recommendations.
With this report, the board will have the information they require to make a full assessment of risk and what action they need to take.
Turn Around Team phase 2
If you wish, Empower can come back into your organisation and implement the changes. We aim to turn around your organisation within 4 months (unless exceptional circumstances arise) enabling you to feel confident that any risks are being managed and reduced. At Empower, we aim to build charities for the future so in addition to responding to critical issues we also ensure that proper procedures are in place to embed good practice going forward.

Business Support enquiry
Empower undertook a business survey on behalf of Upper Amman Valley Communities First, contacting around 300 local businesses to establish their needs in terms of skills, qualifications and experience. The survey provided the partnership with guidance on the types of training and support local residents needed in order for them to compete effectively for local jobs.
"First class for clarity, analysis and practical recommendations - Keep up the high standards."
Tom Williams, Upper Amman Communities First
Empower was brought in to work with a community to develop an open and accountable residents group with whom London Borough of Barnet could consult on the stock transfer from Barnet Homes to Warden Housing Association. Tenant Participation Officers had worked with the existing tenants group but had struggled to develop the group into one representative of the whole community. Empower engaged all residents and helped develop a network of tenant and resident members supported by key stakeholders including the Police, Youth Service, Barnet College, London Borough of Barnet and a variety of voluntary and community groups. The Dollis Valley Community network was formed which reflected the community and had the mandate to consult on behalf of the residents.
"This has been excellent. Bev has given additional time to ensure things are followed through. Provision of a design and printing service has been a real asset … Bev’s approach has generated positive feedback from residents and officers. This has been a real boost for Dollis Valley."
Caroline Mitcham, London Borough of Barnet
